In a follow-up to the 2018 Conference on Historical Monoliths in Cross River Region.

 In a message sent to crossrivetdew on 15th november, 2021. Crossriverdew gandered that the monoliths were an  ideal conceived and organized by the Department of History and International Studies students' association University of Calabar, under the headship of Associate Professor Frank Enor, which recorded great attendance of both high profile personalities in the state and students.



In a message from the assciation, we are pleased and glad to inform the University management, Faculty of Arts and the general public, that the National Association of History and International Studies Students',  University of Calabar chapter under the leadership of Comrade Abani Sunday Onen, has resolved to erect  Monoliths in the University of Calabar Community, and upon which all approval has been given to that effect; and this project christened “Prof. Florence Obi Historical Square” is in honor of Professors Emmanuel Ayandele, Pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Okon Edet Uya, first DVC and Pioneer Dean of the faculty of Arts, and Bassey Andah, a renowned Archaeologist. for their indelible contributions to the development and growth of the University of Calabar since its inception. 


The monoliths interprete a huge variety of the culture of pre-historic societies of Aboriginals, as they remain ancient treasure, artifact and ample evidence in historical reconstruction.


after which the groundbreaking/foundation laying of the  historic project was performed. An event honored by the 11th amiable Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Florence w Banku Obi whom carried out a ritual by appeasing the gods of the institution to welcome such historic  inside.


In a appreciation, the president of the association comrade Abani, thank the head of history department, others saying; let me on behalf of my entire executive members thank the Head of the Department of History and International Studies and staff, the Dean of Faculty of Arts, the Vice-Chancellor of our prestigious University for their encouragement and support that has brought this project to this level. More so, I thanked the Erection Committee under the chairmanship of Snr. Comrade Ayang Victor Moses for a show of capacity and working assiduously to seeing to the progress made so far in this project, and the entire students of the department for their commitment.
